This one-day event on April 14th, 2021, with a variety of interactive sessions is aimed at facility staff of Research Infrastructures that traditionally provide physical user access as part of their services, e.g. Instruct-ERIC, Euro-BioImaging ERIC, EMBRC and EU-Openscreen.
Remote access to physical machinery can pose many challenges, including the provision of training on use of technology that usually happens incidentally during in-person access and is a crucial part of the added values researchers get from using the infrastructure services. Remote performance of experiments also requires facility staff to develop many new skills and strategies – both in terms of experimental techniques, sample shipment and process, the necessary technological adaptations to the systems as well as in communication with the users. The provision of access to the produced data and the necessary software tools and expertise is a further key challenge that needs to be addressed for successful remote access to happen.
The aim of this Exchange of Experience workshop is to provide a forum for sharing of ideas, best practise examples and common struggles from members of different RIs that commonly rely on physical access to their services. Addressing these issues in a cross-RI forum brings in a diversity of voices and thereby more experiences and perspectives.
